The book of Enoch is one of the oldest books written by humans and is believed to have been written in the Hebrew language by Noah's ancestor Enoch.
This book, which is said to have been written by Enoch, has not been able to find a trace of this great work, since all copies of the Hebrew or other languages in the world have been lost or destroyed for over 2,000 years.
However, due to the strong international relations of the Ethiopian clergy and monks, Alemach was able to get the book back from where it was and copy it completely in calligraphy. With the preservation of the Book of Enoch, Ethiopia has been able to do great deeds for the whole world.
The Book of Enoch is the greatest Christian book of the Bible mentioned in three places in the New Testament: Luke 3:37, Hebrews 11: 5, and Jude 1: 14-15. Many scholars believe that Christianity is the most important book in history.
However, the book was ignored by many religious leaders, including Judaism and Protestantism, and was not included in the canon but was deuterocanonical in the volume of their books.
It is known that different religions have decided which books should be included in their sculptures based on the decisions of the Synod at different times.
Accordingly, the Catholic Church accepts 73 canonical books, while the Jewish Church has 24 canonical books, and the largest Protestant churches use 66 canonical books. However, not all of these religious institutions include the Book of Enoch in their Bibles.
Some have suggested that if the New Testament book of Enoch had been included, at least in the Jewish canon, it would have been lost for centuries.
In this regard, the great contemporary Geez scholar, Professor Getachew Haile, called the Book of Enoch a "controversial book": "This book is not listed in any synodal copy, it is not one of the eighty books of the law." They explained.
Professor Getachew said that the full text of the book was not available in Geez before it was published in Ethiopia and that our country's scholars have been debating it since the time of King Jacob.
Because, as he puts it, the Book of Enoch is controversial and unpopular around the world, but now it is included in one of the eighty books in Ethiopia and Eritrea, which have preserved it for centuries.
The book is controversial because the main ideas of the book are explained in other scriptures and there is a question as to how Enoch was able to write the book in the days of Enoch (Lord 51, 2012).
In his book, "Staying With Geez Literature for a Long Time" (Master 50, 2012), Professor Getachew states: The Fathers, who determined the size of the Bible, left many books, and they were the ones who decided that there were only four Gospels. ”
According to Professor Getachew, there has been a lot of debate over the inclusion of the book in Ethiopian canonical books. Ethiopian scholars and members of the Synod, in particular, criticized and criticized the writing of the Book of Enoch.
"The apostate who denies Enoch - listen, the Torah says of Enoch's glory, 'Enoch pleased God, but he was not found, because God hid him.'" According to the Bible, "Enoch was not found, because God hid him" because he was the first man to ascend before the flood. It is believed that after the Flood, Elijah and Jesus Christ were taken up into heaven with their bodies, souls, and spirit.]
He went on to say that the book is important for the history of religion, despite the controversy surrounding the book.
In his book The Ethiopian Orthodox Tawahidi Church, Professor Ephraim Isaac discusses the importance of the book, saying that Enoch's book is as important as Geez literature to Pushkin to Russian literature and Shakespeare to English literature. "For Ethiopic literature, the Book of Enoch is like Pushkin for Russian literature and Shakespeare for English literature." (Ephraim I. PP 66: 2013)
According to Professor Ephraim, the book of Enoch has disappeared from the world due to the nature and expression of the Geez language and the fact that it is now referred to as the original Geez, which will be of great benefit to our country.
The way in which the copies of the book are now written in different worlds and in our country's monasteries (chapter distribution, numbering, compilation, margins, and drawing) vary according to the time and authors of the copies.
James Bruce, a Scotsman who first came to Ethiopia to explore the Nile in the 18th century, took two copies of the book to Europe, and some of the book's Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Aramaic during the 1950s. It is being translated into most languages and is being used for education and research. It is also being widely published and distributed in the Amharic language.
Like any other Geez language book in the monasteries of our country, it has been widely reproduced and distributed since ancient times.
However, it is difficult to know the exact age and author of the Geez language books in each monastery, as they often do not mention the time and place of the author (sometimes it is not polite to write the name of the book they copied).
However, it is possible to estimate the date by looking at him, as the master of the text is guessing, and the author mentions the king or queen of his time in the middle of the text.
Although the book of Enoch is controversial, as noted earlier, scholars generally agree that it contains many important messages and stories for the study of religion.
According to Antoine d'Abbadie, one of the earliest manuscripts in the French National Museum, the Book of Enoch, sometimes called the apocalyptic, has five main sections.
